Both user research and usability testing are extremely valuable for the UX design process, typically undertaken when launching a new product or redesigning an existing one.
User research refers to several methods applied to a group of representative users, in order to get a profound understanding of their behaviour. There are many user research methods; including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and many more.
Usability testing, on the other hand, is the best way to evaluate a product's ease of use in order to see how users interact with it, and then identify usability issues in the user experience.
